Richard “Cody” Stephens of Cherryvale, Kan., died Saturday, Jan. 16, 2010, at KU Medical Center in Kansas City, Kan. He was 23.
Mr. Stephens was born May 6, 1986, in Springfield, Mo., to Randy and Toni (Stephens) Gower. He lived in Monett, Mo., before moving to Cherryvale.
He was a student at Coffeeville Kan. Community College. He attended Cowboy Riverside Church in Nevada, Mo., loved bull riding and was a member of several associations.
Survivors include his parents; his grandparents, Paul Stephens of Monett, Terry and Mary Gower of Welch and Ann Spahon of Baxter Springs, Kan.; his great-grandmother, Thelma Stephens of Washburn, Mo., and two sisters, Ashley and Gannyn Gower of Cherryvale.
He was preceded in death by his grandmother, Joan Stephens.
Services will be 1 p.m. Friday at Bennett-Wormington Funeral Home in Monett. The Rev. Roger Beach will officiate. Burial will be in Mount Calvary Cemetery in Monett.
The family will receive friends from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
