Ernestine B. Rhoades died Wednesday, Jan. 13, 2010, at Joplin (Mo.) Health and Rehabilitation Center. She was 93.
Mrs. Rhoades was born Nov. 25, 1916, in Galena, Kan., to Jess E. and Nellie Mae (Phipps) Hobson. Except for living in California from 1937 to 1945, she lived in the Southeast Kansas area all of her life.
She worked several years in the Riverton School cafeteria as the school baker. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Riverton, Kan.
She married James Ray Rhoades on Nov. 22, 1933, in Galena. He preceded her in death on July 7, 1972.
She was also preceded in death by one daughter, Janet Larraine Coyle; one sister, Nadine Rouse, and one brother, Enos Hobson.
Survivors include two sons and their wives, Jim and Ginger Rhoades of Neosho, Mo., and Jerry and Dixie Rhoades of Joplin; two daughters and their husbands, Rayma Jo and Don Hutto of Columbus, Kan., and Joyce and Bob Gelso of Miami; one son-in-law, John Coyle of Grove; one brother-in-law and his wife, Earl “Bud” and Pearl Rhoades of Baxter Springs, Kan.; 16 grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.
Services were Saturday at Derfelt Funeral Home in Galena. The Rev. Herb Parsons officiated. Burial was in Oak Hill Cemetery in Galena.
Pallbearers were John Hutto, Tom Hutto, Jim Rhoades, Todd Rhoades, David Gelso and Justin Gelso.
Memorials were suggested to Macedonia Baptist Church in care of the funeral home.
