A. Duane Rogers of Rolla, Mo., died Monday, April 27, 2009. He was 71.

Mr. Rogers was born April 1, 1938, in Welch to George Robert and Beulah (Lawson) Rogers. He graduated from Welch High School, attended Northeastern Oklahoma A&M College and Oklahoma State University, receiving his masterís degree in education from Central Missouri State University in Warrensburg. He came to Missouri in fall of 1960.

He served as a teacher and later as principal in Lincoln, Mo. He joined the Missouri Department of Education in Jefferson City, Mo., in 1967 and as district supervisor in Rolla, Mo., in 1972.

He married Mary Francis Althoff on May 31, 1964. She survives, of the home.

Additional survivors include two daughters, Maretta Diestelkamp and her husband Bob of St. James, Mo., and Dana Wootten of Bowling Green, Mo.; one son and his wife, John and Nya Rogers of Rolla; his mother, of Welch; one sister and her husband, Helen and Harold Hadley of Springfield, Mo.; one brother and his wife, Gary and Rebecca Rogers of Knoxville, Tenn., and six grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his father and two brothers, John and Eugene.

Services were held Friday at James and Gahr Mortuary. Pastor David Neiss and Chris Wise officiated. Burial was in Rolla City Cemetery.
