Longtime Miami resident Mrs. Betty Mae Roberson left this world and entered into eternity Feb. 23, 2009, at her home in Miami, Okla. 

Betty was born July 13, 1926, in Quapaw, Okla., to her parents Charles and Dora Shields Nichols. Betty graduated from Miami High School as a Wardog.

On December 13, 1946, Mr. Jappie Roberson took Miss Betty Nichols as his bride in Baxter Springs, Kan.  She and Jappie have made Miami their home ever since.  Betty attended the Miami Business College in 1945 and soon left for Washington DC working for the Department of the Navy during the war.

 Betty’s life was dedicated to children.  She loved her own as well as others.  Betty had many hobbies such as photography and cooking.  Her greatest love, outside her grandchildren, was her Lord and Savior.  She was a dedicated member of her church and the Christian faith.  Betty was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother.

Although she is no longer with us, her memory and legacy will be kept alive through the family and friends she leaves behind which include: her devoted best friend and husband of 62 years,  Jappie Roberson of the home; two daughters:  Nancy and husband Jim Wells of Miami, Okla., and Kathy and husband Woodie Martin of Miami, Okla.; two sons:  Ken and wife Kay Roberson of Tulsa, Okla., and Greg and wife Tracy Roberson of Tulsa, Okla.; two sisters: Gladys Jackson of Wichita, Kan., and Bonnie Hayter of Diamond, Mo.; eight grandchildren:  Nicole and husband James Panter of Miami, Okla., Ty and wife Amber Roberson of Shawnee, Okla., Brad Roberson of Tulsa, Okla., Scott and wife Katy Roberson of Tulsa, Okla., Jami Plemmons of Miami, Okla., Perri, Peyton and Quinn Roberson of Bixby, Okla.,  and six great-grandchildren:  Raegan, Lauren and Brianne Panter, Aubrey and  Alyvia Plemmons, all of Miami, Okla., and Jordyn Roberson of Shawnee, Okla..

Betty is preceded in death by her parents; one daughter: Susan Roberson; two brothers: Clifford and Herman Nichols, and one granddaughter: Ashley Collier.

Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Thursday Feb. 26, 2009, at the Church of Jesus Christ Restoration Branch with Elder Steven Kropp and Elder Wayne Kirk officiating. Interment will follow at Fairland Cemetery. 

Family will be receiving friends for visitation on Wednesday evening, Feb. 25, 2009, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Cooper-Althouse Funeral Home.
