Longtime Bluejacket, Okla., resident Elmer Lee Mason, 77, was taken to Heaven on Oct. 22, 2008, after an extensive battle with cancer at his home at 448 N. Smith in Vinita, Okla., with his family by his side.
Elmer was born March 30, 1931, to Elmer Ellsworth and Alberta Mae Mason in Bluejacket, Okla.
He married the love of his life, Betty Joyce (Moss) Mason on April 4, 1950, in Bentonville, Ark. They were married until Oct. 28, 2002, when she was taken to be with the Lord.
He served in the U.S. Military Army Branch during the Korean Conflict. He was a member of the Disabled American Veterans Chapter 50 and Timber Hill Baptist Church in Bluejacket, Okla. He worked for Farmland Industries in Afton, Okla., for 25 years until his retirement in 1991.
Elmer is survived by his four daughters, Linda and husband Bobby Garrett of Miami, Okla., Brenda Jinks of Bluejacket/Vinita, Okla., Vickie and husband Oliver Walker of Bluejacket, Okla., and Judy and husband Allen Hintz of Bluejacket, Okla. Grandchildren include Melissa Olson and friend Don Schertz of Miami, Okla., Kimberly Jinks and friend Travis Cameron of Vinita, Okla., Brandy and husband Scott Cunningham of Vinita, Okla., Cheyne Jinks and wife De of Vinita, Okla., Maver Walker of Bluejacket, Okla., Jake Walker of Bluejacket, Okla., Michael Hintz and wife Miranda of Pryor, Okla., Justin Hintz and friend Kristen Ross of Vinita, Okla., and Elizabeth Hintz of Bluejacket, Okla. Great-grandchildren include Jody Olson, Lacey and Brittany Powell, Bryce Long, Dakotah and Lakelan Bro, Tucker Cunningham, Katylin Jinks, Heaven, Alley and Destinie Bava, Sara, Gabriellea and Caleb Hintz, and Shea Ross. Also surviving are three brothers, Vernon Mason and wife Earlene of Vinita, Okla., Melvin Mason and wife Martha of Vinita, Okla., and Jim Mason of Coos Bay, Ore.; two sisters, Anna Graham of Miami, Okla., and Alberta Mae and husband Thomas Winfrey of Vinita, Okla., numerous nieces and nephews and a host of friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers, Scott, Pat, Calvin and Relmond Mason, and two sisters, Alice Davis and Alma McBride.
Visitation will be from 2 to 4 p.m. on Sunday at Thomas Funeral Home Chapel in Welch, Okla.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Monday at Thomas Funeral Home Chapel in Welch, with pastor George Vaughn officiating. Interment will follow at Walker Cemetery, west of Welch. Military rights will be performed.
Serving as pallbearers will be his grandchildren.
The family will be gathering at the Timber Hills Baptist Church prior to the funeral.
