Imogene Mead of Chetopa, Kan., died Friday, Aug. 15, 2008, at St. Johnís Regional Medical Center in Joplin, Mo., after an illness.

She was 86.

Mrs. Mead was born Oct. 5, 1921, in Hockerville to Hobert and Idabelle (Shamblin) Thomas. She lived in the Chetopa area most of her life.

She was a member of First Baptist Church of Chetopa.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Darwin I. Mead Sr. in 1991; her grandson, Bryan D. Mead, and a great-grandson.

Survivors include two sons and their wives, Darwin I. and Maria Mead of Midland, Texas, and Billy G. and Linda of Parsons, Kan.; six grandchildren, Lourie Fry, Lisa Shireman, Amber Mead, Billy D. Mead, John Bechyne and Michelle Satterfield, and seven great-grandchildren.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Paul Thomas Funeral Home in Picher. Joe Fry will officiate. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery in Chetopa.

Pallbearers will be her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. today at the funeral home.
