Edna Maureen McBee died Saturday, Feb. 14, 2009, in Vinita.
Mrs. McBee was born Dec. 11, 1917, in Carthage, Mo., to Everett Thompson Sr. and Edna Stone Thompson. She was a Carthage High School graduate and Joiner School of Commerce in Carthage. She moved to Vinita in 1960.
She worked as a secretary for two and a half years at the Veterans Administration and Social Security Administration in Washington, D.C. She worked as school secretary at Southeast Elementary in Vinita for 11 and a half years. She volunteered regularly with Red Cross blood drives in Vinita, was active in the Craig County Retired Educators Association. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Vinita where she sang in the choir and later the Silvertones, worked in the nursery and helped in the medial center.
She married Charles W. McBee on June 12, 1941. He preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, LeVoy “Lee” Thompson, Everett Thompson Jr. and Kenneth Thompson, and four sister, Mary Landon, Nellie Milton, Nira Hodge and Christine Snyder.
Survivors include three sons and their wives, Warren and Karol McBee of Merritt Island, Fla., Marvin and Judy McBee of Hollis and Douglas and Paula McBee of Norman; three sisters, Clara Rush of Fredrick, Md., Ruth Hudson of Winter Haven, Fla., and Nola Spooner and husband Don of Crocker City, Kan.; one brother and his wife, Don and Jean Thompson of Kansas City, Mo.; five grandchildren, Felicia Morley, Scott McBee, Greg McBee, Christopher McBee and Kimberly McBee, and four great-grandchildren.
Services were 10 a.m. today at First Baptist Church in Vinita. Burial is 2:30 p.m. today in Park Cemetery in Carthage.
Arrangements are under the direction of Luginbuel Funeral Home of Vinita.
Memorials are suggested to the First Baptist Church in Vinita nursery fund.
