Margaret Elizabeth Magness was ushered through the gates of Heaven by a host of family and friends to meet her Lord on June 13, 2007, at Higher Call Nursing Home in Quapaw, where she has resided for the last few months.
Although she was born in Boise City on May 30, 1922, to Arthur and Bertha Sitton, she received her education and lived many years in Chickasha. On May 23, 1941, she graduated from Chickasha High School and married Raymond Elsworth Magness. They were married for 43 years. She was a farmer's wife, mother and grandmother and all that that entails.
Margaret was a member of the Cardin Christian Church. She danced with the Miami & Green Country Squares square dance club with Raymond for 32 years and sewed all their dance outfits. She was a Champion bowler for many years, an Avid Bridge player for 30 years and a member of several card groups. She was also a Hospital Volunteer since 1985 with over 5,000 hours proudly wearing her little pink jacket. She was a season ticket holder to the Miami Travel Club and a Member of NARFE for 14 years. She loved traveling, reading, camping and THE BEST Mother five children could every have!
She was preceded in death by her parents, Arthur James and Bertha Jane Witten Sitton; her husband, Raymond E. Magness; her sister, Opal Irene Farrar; her brother, James Mitchel Sitton; her eldest daughter, Etta Jane Jay; her only son, James William Magness; a son-in-law, John William Greninger; one grandson, Jason Wayne Love, and nieces, Jenelda Martin and JoyAnn Botts.
She leaves behind her loving family of four daughters and spouses, Beth Rotman and husband Terry, Lynne Honey, Nancy Magness, all of Miami; and Sue Burnett and husband Larry of Catoosa.
She celebrated her 12 Grandchildren and spouses which include Jr. Schubert, Candi Anderson and husband Darren, Raymond Magness and wife Heather, Aaron Magness and wife Deborah, Sheri Preston and husband Matt, Steven Bassett, Mitch Greninger and wife Shandy, Kim English and husband DeShaun, Jami Lamb and husband Jamey, Trent Honey and wife Rachel, Michelle Honey and Darrel Burnett.
She lovingly leaves her wonderful 14 Great-Grandchildren: Sarah and husband Joshua Fanning, Spencer and Gunnar Anderson, Samantha, Katie and Rachael Schubert, Emily Magness, Marque and Mason English, Ryan Preston, Pierson Honey, Stephanie Magness, and Hadden and Kalena Wyatt. She was excited and looking forward to adding three more great-grandchildren this year.
Pallbearers will be her grandsons.
Funeral arrangements will be with the Amis-Kennard Funeral Home in Catoosa. Her body will lie in state at the Paul Thomas Funeral Home in Miami. Services will be held Friday at 2 p.m. at the funeral home. Interment will be at Mount Hope Cemetery in Afton.
