James W. “Wally” Boone Jr., D.D.S., of Vinita died Sunday, June 10, 2007, at Craig General Hospital in Vinita after an illness. He was 78.
Dr. Boone was born April 15, 1929, in Oklahoma City to James W. Boone Sr. and Billie (Rives) Boone. He earned a bachelor's degree from the University of Oklahoma and completed his dental training at Baylor University. He moved to Vinita in the late 1950s.
He was a veteran of the Air Force where he served as a captain.
He had a long practice as a dentist in Vinita. He was a member of Pilgrim Presbyterian Church in Vinita, member and past president of the Vinita Lions Club, a member of the board of the Oklahoma Quarter Horse Association, member and past president of the Northern Oklahoma Dental Association, member of the American Legion and served as rodeo chairman for the Will Rogers Memorial Rodeo.
He married Pat Haff on May 30, 1970, in Vinita. She survives, of the home.
Additional survivors include two sons and their wives, Stephen W. and Elizabeth Boone of Cedar Creek, Texas, and James C. and Sharlean Boone of Sand Springs; one daughter, Lee Ann Stroud of Oklahoma City; two brothers and their wives, Richard and Mattie Boone of Tulsa and Robert and Lucinda Boone of Glendale, Ariz., and six grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Services will be 10 a.m. Thursday at Pilgrim Presbyterian Church in Vinita with Dr. Richard Evans officiating. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery in Vinita. Pallbearers are Stephen Boone, James Boone, Lloyd Haff, Walter Rapp, Micah Koon and Lowell Hatcher. Honorary pallbearers are J. Duke Logan, Dr. Jim Dawson, Jack Luginbuel, Rick Claborn, Robert Boone and Richard Boone.
Arrangements are under the direction of Burckhalter Funeral Home of Vinita.
Memorials are suggested to the FFA (Horse Division) Scholarship Fund.
