Robert “Bob” Douglas Campbell of Claremore, Okla., died Thursday, April 30, 2009, at Claremore Regional Hospital in Claremore, Okla. He was 69.

Mr. Campbell was born Nov. 9, 1939, in Bokchito, Okla., to Steven Douglas and Vera Mae (Collier) Campbell and was the youngest of four children.

He is a graduate of Miami High School class of 1958 and briefly attended Oklahoma State University before enlisting in the U.S. Navy and setting off to see the world. His military career also includes the Oklahoma National Guard and USAR. Bob was honorably discharged from the Navy in 1962.

He was a longtime employee of Cain’s Coffee and moved to Claremore in 1985 to work in the Tulsa area, retiring in 1992. He later retired from the Oklahoma Veterans Center in 2002. He was a member of Miami Lodge No. 140 A.F.&A.M.

He married Gayla Ruth Hardin on June 8, 1963, after meeting in Miami just a short time before and enjoyed 38 years of marriage before Gayla’s passing in 2001. To this union three sons were born. He moved back to the Miami area where he spent most days joking with friends and playing golf and cards.

He was also preceded in death by his parents, Steve and Vera Campbell, and two sisters, Ruth and Lucy.

Survivors include three sons, Doug and wife Dana Campbell, Mitch and wife Tammy Campbell and Gary Campbell; one sister, Barbara and husband George Tipton; five grandchildren, Megan, Adam, Cassie, Natalie and Galyn, several nieces and nephews and many friends.

Funeral services will be Monday, May 4, 2009, at 2 p.m. at the Paul Thomas Funeral Home in Miami, Okla. The Rev. Rob Brust will officiate. Burial will be in Greenlawn Cemetery, east of Treece, Kan.

Military rites will be conducted by the American Legion Post No. 147 Detail Team. Masonic rites will be conducted by Miami Lodge No. 140 A.F.&A.M.

Services are under the direction of the Paul Thomas Funeral Home in Miami, Okla.
