Juanita G. Adkins, longtime resident of Bernice, died at Grove Nursing Center, Thursday, Feb. 19, 2009, after a lengthy illness. She was 87. Mrs. Adkins was born Aug. 13, 1921, at Broken Bow, OK, to Lee and Leona (Phillips) Gordon. She had worked in clerical positions at Craig General Hospital in Vinita, Baptist Regional Health Center in Miami, and Freeman Hospital in Joplin. She moved to Bernice in 1969, coming from Sapulpa. She was a member of Lake Center Baptist Church on Monkey Island. She married Rev. Cecil Henson on Dec. 21, 1940. He preceded her on Apr. 23, 1998. She married Louis Adkins on Feb. 6, 1999. He survives of the home. Other survivors include a son and his wife, Roger and Patricia Henson of Salina, OK; four grandchildren, Rob and Lindsey Henson, Tim and Gina Henson, Mark Henson, and Jerico and Randall Wilson; and seven great-grandchildren. A funeral will be at 1:00 p.m., Monday, Feb. 23, 2009, at Lake Center Baptist Church, with Rev. Kim Hays officiating. Serving as pallbearers will be Rob Henson, Tim Henson, Mark Henson, Roger Henson, Brian Adkins, and Jeff Adkins. Burial will be at Ballard Cemetery in Bernice. A visitation will be from 2-4 p.m., Sunday, Feb. 22, 2009, at Adcock Funeral Home in Fairland.
