Melba Collins of Fairland died Saturday, July 14, 2007, at Montgomery, Ala., after an illness.  She was 88. 

Mrs. Collins was born March 18, 1919, in Dadeville, Mo., to Hugh and Cytha (Berry) McConnell Sr. She moved to Fairland in 1956, coming from Springfield, Mo.

She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Fairland and served as nursery attendant for 51 years.

She married George Collins on March 22, 1941. He preceded her in death.

She was also preceded in death by two brothers, Tom Roger McConnell and Hugh McConnell Jr., and one sister, Frances Saborosh. 

Survivors include three daughters and their husbands, Deborah and Mitchell Terry of Fayetteville, Ark., Leah Gale and Dale Gainer of Charlotte, N.C., and Carole LeMaster of Montgomery; 11 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. 

Services will be 10 a.m. Saturday at the First Baptist Church in Fairland with the Rev. Andy Krebs officiating. Burial will be at Dadeville Masonic Cemetery. 

Her grandsons will serve as pallbearers. 

Arrangements are under the direction of Adcock Funeral Home in Fairland.

Memorials are suggested to the nursery and children's ministries at First Baptist Church.
