Verna Mae Nelson died Saturday, July 14, 2007. She was 90.
Mrs. Nelson was born Oct. 27, 1916, in Lovell to Joseph and Emma (Koch) Vadder. She graduated from Hennessey High School.
She worked at Chetopa, Kan., Garment Factory and Wagner’s General Store in Welch. She was a member of Sunshine Baptist Church in Welch and served in many position, but had to decline the past two years due to illness. She was a member of Plateau’s Home Demonstration Club for several years.
She married Hugh Nelson in June 1934. He preceded her in death in 2004. She was also preceded in death by one daughter, Pam; her parents, two brothers, one sister and three great-grandchildren.
Survivors include two sons, Charlie Joe Nelson and his wife Donna of Barnsdall and Gary Lynn Nelson of Kansas City, Kan.; four daughters and their husbands, Deanna Elaine and Rufus Forrest of Yukon, Sandra Sue Baker of Lancaster, Wis., Patricia Ann and Rick Regan of Andale, Kan., and Ginger and Rick Greene of Inola; 16 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
Services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Thomas Funeral Home in Welch. Burial will be in Walker Cemetery, west of Welch.
Pallbearers will be Joe Alan Nelson, Lance Nelson, Kevin Snider, Bryan Baker, Barry Baker, Chane Stine, Ryan Rogers and Derick Greene. Honorary pallbearers will be Larry Layton, Rowdy Layton, Ronnie Beaty, Bill Tallman and Richard Tallman.
The family will receive friends from 6:30 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
