Earlene Allen of Miami died Tuesday, May 19, 2009, at Freeman Hospital in Joplin, Mo., after an illness. She was 74.

Mrs. Allen was born May 18, 1935, in Miami to Jesse and Asalee (Gibson) Hattery. She lived in the Miami, Cardin area all of her life.

She was a homemaker and attended Liberty Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, Joe Sharbutt in 1961, and her second husband, Jim Allen in August, 2006.

She was also preceded in death by one son, James Paul Allen in February, 2007, and one sister, Betty Culbirth in 2008.

Survivors include two sons, Joe Sharbutt and wife Lynn and Jesse Allen, all of Miami; three daughters and their husbands, Jolene and Ron Heathman and Debbie Thomas, all of Miami, and Loretta and Jerry Cox of Joplin; two brothers, Herbert Lawson of Miami and Russell Hattery of Jefferson City, Mo.; one sister, Joyce Bradley of Grove, 12 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

Services will be 10 a.m. Friday at Paul Thomas Funeral Home of Miami. The Rev. Carol Holden will officiate. Burial will be in G.A.R. Cemetery in Miami.

Grandsons will serve as pallbearers.

The family will receive friends from 5 to 6 p.m. today at the funeral home.
