Velma Dorene Linderman of Chetopa, Kan., died Wednesday, May 23, 2007, at St. John's Regional Medical Center in Joplin, Mo. She was 80.
Mrs. Linderman was born Aug. 12, 1926, in Wyandotte to Orval and Ora (Green) Patton. She graduated from college with an associate's degree in food services.
She was a food service supervisor for Chetopa Manor for eight years as well as head cook for Redwood Cafe in Chetopa where she was most popular for her red-eye gravy. She was a member of First Christian Church in Chetopa.
She married Marvin William Linderman on Feb. 13, 1949, in Nowata. He preceded her in death on Feb. 3, 1981.
Survivors include one son, Gary Linderman of Chetopa, and three sisters, Nadine Faria and Pearl Bolt, both of Modesto, Calif., and Ina Mae Lipsey of Louisville, Ky.
Services will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Thomas Funeral Home in Welch with pastor Mike Hand officiating. Burial will be in Wyandotte Indian Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Charles Stoner, Art Cousatte, Ron Green, Mickey Hoover, Russell Robson, Nick Koronis and Tom Crawford.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
