Sally Williams, longtime Miami businesswoman, passed away May 24, 2012 at her home after a sudden illness. She was 77 years old.
Sally was born September 27, 1935 in the State of Washington to Harvey Michael and Emma Virginia (Shafer) Williams. She was a graduate of Miami High School, Class of 1953. In 1957, she graduated from the College of Music at North Texas University, in Denton, Texas, receiving a Bachelor’s Degree in Vocal Performance.
Sally was a singer and actress throughout her life. Her first lead roles began with Miami High School plays in 1950-1953, Opera in the Ozarks at Inspiration Point, Arkansas in 1952 and 1953, and she continued to perform throughout her life in choirs, choral groups, Miami Little Theatre, and in NEO Drama and Music Department performances.
She owned and operated Sally’s Boutique from 1972 to 1990, and while living in Georgia, was a buyer for Jones of New York, at Richs’ Department Store in Augusta, GA. She has been the proud owner of Emma’s Boutique since 1997, and a resident of Ottawa County for 70 years.
Sally was a member of All Saints’ Episcopal Church in Miami from the time she returned to Miami in 1997 through the present. She was a former member of The Church of the Good Shepard Episcopal Church in Augusta, GA and an active member of their choir. While a member, she traveled with the choir to England, singing at several cathedrals and spending a week in August, 1997 singing daily services at Westminster Abbey – the highlight of their tour. The altar flowers in the sanctuary are given in memory of Sally from the members of the choir of The Church of the Good Shepard in Augusta, Ga.
Sally also loved gardening, her pets, birds, opera, choral music, and her friends. She was a long-time member of Letters and Arts Club of Miami and Chapter AJ, PEO, where she served as president. She will be greatly missed by those who had the privilege of knowing and loving her.
The body will lie in state at the Paul Thomas Funeral Home in Miami.
There will be a visitation for family and friends from 5 to 7 p.m., Monday, May 28, 2012 at the Paul Thomas Funeral Home, Miami.
Services honoring Sally will be held at 11 a.m., Tuesday, May 29, 2012 at The All Saints’ Episcopal Church, Miami. Celebrant: The Reverend Susan Connell and The Reverend Kay Bowman-Harvey, with Bill Flannery playing the organ. Serving as pallbearers will be William Schuelein, Jimmy Brock, Leslie E. Farris, Scott Burgess, Gary Anderson and Marvin Hoover.
Interment at G.A.R. Cemetery, Miami, Okla.
