William “Bill” E. Barnes of Joplin, Mo., died Wednesday, Dec. 5, 2007, at St. John's Regional Medical Center in Joplin.
He was 74.
Mr. Barnes was born April 22, 1933, in Greensburg, Kan., to Marion and Monetta Barnes. He graduated in 1951 from Miami High School. He later moved to Joplin.
He worked at the Miami News-Record for 15 years. He later worked as a printer for the Joplin Globe for 25 years, retiring in 1991. He was a member of the 26th and Connecticut Church of Christ.
He married Josephine Cole on Oct. 12, 1952, in Miami. She survives.
Additional survivors include one son and his wife, Gene and Judy Barnes of Springfield, Mo.; two brothers, Harold D. Barnes of Miami and Don Barnes of Bloomington, Ill.; two grandchildren, Tara Barnes and Brett Barnes and wife Libby, and one great-granddaughter, Kaylin Barnes.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Patricia Williams in 2001.
Memorial services will be 2 p.m. Saturday at the Mason-Woodard Chapel in Joplin. Ministers Jake King and Lowell Thomas will officiate.
The family will receive friends from 1 p.m. until service time Saturday.
Memorial contributions may be made to Arc of the Ozarks or to the Fair Haven Children's Home in care of the mortuary.
