Calvin Ray Jones Sr. of Miami died Tuesday, Oct. 7, 2008, at home after an illness. He was 56.
Mr. Jones was born Dec. 16, 1951, in Miami to Mitchell and Gwendolyn (Spohn) Jones. He moved to Miami in 1971, coming from Wyandotte.
He was a Vietnam War veteran of the Army.
He worked in law enforcement with Ottawa County Sheriff's Department, North Miami Police Department, Commerce Police Department and other agencies in Northeastern Oklahoma. He was working in security for the Oklahoma Forensic Center in Vinita when he became ill. He was a member of the Vietnam Veterans of America, a Patriot Guard Rider and a member of the Miami Civil Defense. He attended the Church of God Holiness.
He married Patricia Ann Butler on Feb. 17, 1989, at Lavern's Chapel in Miami. She survives, of the home.
Additional survivors include one son, Calvin Ray Jones Jr., of Miami; three daughters, Paula Thulin of Miami, Julie Kay Jones of Norman and Amanda Louise Jones of the home; two brothers, Mitchell Jones of Kansas City, Mo., and Bruce Jones of Miami; one sister, Bonnie McLaughlin of Marcelene, Mo., and eight grandchildren, Tiffany Barnes, Ashley Ward, Tyler Thulin, Tylisha Porter, Bobby Earl, Christopher Jones, Kaylee Jones, and Chance Jones.
Services will be 4 p.m. Friday at the Church of God Holiness in Miami. Roland Adcock will officiate. Burial will be in Glen Abby Cemetery in Miami.
Military honors will be conducted by American Legion Post 147 Burial Detail.
Serving as pallbearers will be Calvin Ray Jones Jr., Mark Birdsell, Benjie Biddle, Bradley Biddle, Matthew Biddle and Tommy Thulin.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Adcock Funeral Home in Fairland.
Memorials are suggested to the Vietnam Veterans of America, in care of the funeral home.
