Marion L. Porter of Miami died Monday, May 18, 2009, at his home after an illness. He was 85.

Mr. Porter was born Oct. 2, 1923, in Louisville, Ky., to Larkin and Edna (Perkins) Porter.

He worked as a supervisor in plant manufacturing. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge, Scottish Rites and Grand Lake Shriners.

Survivors include one son and his wife, Jerry and Karen Porter of Mossy Rock, Wash.; three daughters, Mary Bennett and her husband Mike and Trudie Pendergraft, all of Miami, and Malinda Jacobs of Houston, Mo.; one brother, Charles Ray Stout of Louisville, Ky.; two sisters, Geneva Speak of Fresno, Calif., and Gene Ritter and her husband Don of Louisville., eight grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Shirley Carey.

Services will be 11 a.m. Thursday at New Hope Christian Church in Miami. The Rev. Bill Beatty will officiate. Burial will be in G.A.R. Cemetery in Miami.

Masonic rites will be conducted by Miami Lodge No. 140 A.F.&A.M.

Pallbearers will be Tony Wakefield, Jim Cook, Jubb Richardson, Roy Roach, Ron Panter and Vernon Clark.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Paul Thomas Funeral Home in Miami.

Memorials are suggested to Grand Lake Cripple Children’s Transportation Fund or New Hope Christian Church or Regency Hospice in care of the funeral home.
