Lyn Ellis Dean

Lyn Ellis Dean died Wednesday, Dec. 3, 2008, in Connor, Texas. She was 84.

Mrs. Dean was born March 10, 1924, in Commerce to Dr. James Barnett Hampton and Mary Cecilia Hampton. She graduated from Miami High School and attended Miami Junior College. She later attended the University of Oklahoma where she pledged Kappa Alpha Theta. She later lived in Duncan.

In the early 1960s, she was appointed as the only woman on the Planning and Resources Board of Oklahoma which oversaw the development of several state resorts. She was active in community and civic affairs in Duncan including the Arts and Humanities Council, Civic Capers, Literacy Council and the Duncan Little Theatre. She was a member of the First Christian Church.

She married Richard Allison Ellis on Sept. 15, 1945.

She later married Harry Dean of Miami. He preceded her in death.

She was also preceded in death by her parents and one brother, James Barnett Hampton Jr.

Survivors include two sons and their wives, Stow and Kathy Ellis of Grand Blanc, Mich., and Tom and Sue Ellis of Duncan; one daughter and her husband, Susie and Raymond McGee of Conroe, Texas; six grandchildren, Darin Ellis, Shawn Ellis, Allison Conner, Lindsay Edmiston, Lauren Siess and Jonathan Ellis, and five great-grandchildren, Meggan and Sarah Ellis, Leslie Turner, Reece Edmiston and Addison Siess.

Memorial services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at First Christian Church. The Rev. Arnold Nelson Jr. will officiate.

Arrangements are under the direction of Don Grantham Funeral Home in Duncan.

Memorials are suggested to the American Cancer Society or to the charity of the donorís choice.
