Alma L. Giles of Jay, formerly of Miami, passed away Friday, July 13, 2007, at the Grove Nursing Center in Grove after an illnesss. She was 75.
She was born Sept. 7, 1931, in Delaware County to Virgel and Dollie Irene (Rodgers) Hudgens. She had lived in the Miami area since 1961 before moving to Jay. She was a member of Immanuel Baptist Church of Miami and had worked for Southwestern Bell Telephone Company for 25 years as a tellephone operator.
She was married to Moody Paul Giles on Oct. 27, 1962, in Welch. He preceded her in death in March of 1991. Her parents, one son, one brother, Ray Gene Hudgens, and one sister, Margaret Lucile, all preceded her in death.
Survivors include two daughters, Linda Culveyand her husband Pat of Grove and Paula Fenske of Joplin, Mo.; five grandchildren, Tricia Culvey, Brian Culvey, Quinton Fenske, Evan Fenske and Lauren Fenske, and three great-grandchildren, Weston Culvey, Isaac Culvey and Eden Culvey.
Funeral services will be held Monday, July 16, at 2 p.m. at the Paul Thomas Funeral Home of Miami. The Rev. Don Dively will officiate.
Pallbearers will be Pat Culvey, Weston Culvey, Evan Fenske, Quinton Fenske, Terry Hudgens and Marty Hudgens. Honorary pallbearers will be R.C. Smith, Kevin Fenske, Bill Burgers, John Giles, Carol Ed Giles and Gary Giles.
The family will receive friends today, July 15, from 4 to 5 p.m. at the Paul Thomas Funeral Home of Miami. Interment will be in the Peoria Indian Cemetery southeast of Quapaw.
The family suggests donations be made to the American Heart Association in lieu of flowers.
