Longtime Bluejacket, Oklahoma farmer, rancher, Jimmy “Jim” Lee Spunaugle, went home to be with his Lord and Savior, August 20, 2012 at his home, with his family at his side. He was 74 years old.
Jim was born September 4, 1937 in Welch to Clifton “Dick” Lee and Mary Marie (Fansler) Spunaugle. He was a graduate of Bluejacket High School, Class of 1955.
On June 2, 1957, he married the love of his life, Patricia “Pat” Lee Crow in Miami, Okla. The couple made their home in Perry. In 1960, they moved to a farm in the Bluejacket / Welch area, where they raised their family.
Jim surveyed for the State of Oklahoma in Perry, Tulsa, and Pryor, Okla. from 1957 to 1959. He worked as an aide at Eastern State Hospital. He partnered an Auto Repair Shop with Dick Oakes and worked for the Ford dealership as a mechanic. He was later employed with B.F. Goodrich for 17 years until their closing. With his love for farming, he became self-employed as a Custom Hay Baler and Rancher where he made many friendships with local farmers.
Jim enjoyed racing motor cycles in his earlier years, and always enjoyed getting together with his roping buddies for an evening of roping. He also loved the outdoors, bailing hay, working cattle, and hunting.
He was a devoted family man that demonstrated a high sense of integrity, honesty and trustworthiness. He had a helpful nature, always willing to help friends and neighbors with mechanic work, or anything that was asked of him. His favorite day was Sunday when all the family would gather around the kitchen table to eat Sunday dinner as he would sit and listen to his family tell stories about their daily lives. He will be greatly missed by those who knew and loved him so deeply.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents, Dick and Mary Spunaugle.
His is survived by is loving wife, Pat, of 55 years; children, Teresa Patrick and her husband Marty of Welch, and Terry Spunaugle and his wife Carla of Miami; grandchildren, Candace Hayward and her husband Dayton, Sheena Reece and her husband Kevin, all of Welch, Tyler, Cassandra, and Trenton Spunaugle, all of Miami; great-grandchildren, Seth and Sayler Hayward, and baby Reece on the way; one sister, Joan Barnett and her husband Jr. of Vinita; nieces, Kandi Bayless and her husband Les, April Winfrey and her husband Troy, all of Chickasha; sister and brother in laws, Dixie and William McCorkell of Wyandotte, Jack Crow of Miami, Grant and Ruthina Crow of Anderson, Mo., and Georgia Sapp of Edmond; and a host of friends.
There will be a visitation for family and friends from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, August 22, 2012 at the Thomas Funeral Home, Welch.
Services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, August 23, 2012 at the First Baptist Church of Bluejacket. Rev. Gordon Hatcher will officiate. Family will serve as pallbearers, with additional pallbearers to be Jim Snodderly, Marvin Snodderly, Mike Fitzpatrick, Jack Warden, Gene Windle, Joe Dodson, and Johnny Hurst. Honorary Pallbearers will be Bob Cropp, William McCorkel, Larry McCorkel, Jr. Barnett, Grant Crow, and Jack Crow.
Interment at Welch City Cemetery, Welch, Oklahoma.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society (Pancreatic Research).
