Everett L. Whetstine of Commerce, Okla. passed away Thursday Dec. 1, 2011 at his residence. He was 84.

He was born December 28, 1926 in Picher, Okla. to Glen and Alva (Davis) Whetstine. He left school early to join the military where he was a member of the U.S. Army during World War II; he served in the south Pacific and Japan. He lived in the Great Depression and grew up in Picher, Okla. He moved to Salina, Kan. to work and there he met Betty (Canada) while he was working for her uncle. He married Betty (Canada) Whetstine on January 2, 1964 in Salina, Kan., she preceded him death September of 1974. In 1964 the family moved back to Oklahoma and he lived most of his life west of Picher. He worked for U.S. Metal in Miami doing chrome plating until he retired in 1989. He enjoyed hunting and fishing and was a member of the Steel Workers Union.

He is preceded in death by his parents.

Survivors include: three daughters, Patty Whestpfahl of Miami, Okla., Julie Boggs of Roseburg, Ore., Paula Whetstine of St. Louis, Mo.; two sisters, Evelyn Baker of Milwaukee, Ore., Glenna Ross and husband Preston of Commerce, Okla.; 12 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren.

Services will be 2 p.m. Monday Dec. 5, 2011 at Paul Thomas Funeral Home in Commerce, OK. The Rev. Geoff Buffalo will officiate. Interment will be at G.A.R. Cemetery in Miami, Okla. Pallbearers will be Justin Smith, Jesse Smith, Josh Smith, Dustin Boggs, Anthony Lawson, Jeff Helt and Robert York. The family will receive friends from 2-3pm on Sunday.
