JoAnn Miller Myers, beloved Mother and MiMi, passed into God’s arms on Friday, August 17, 2012.

Also waiting on her was her husband Jack D. Myers, parents Herb and Helen Miller, sister Jean Miller and brother John Miller.

JoAnn was born October 2, 1928 and spent her childhood in Picher, Okla. Her great – great grandfather was F.C. Holt, the first Postmaster in Picher.

JoAnn graduated as Valedictorian of her class at Picher High School in 1945. She was also Rodeo Queen her sophomore year. She particularly enjoyed English and writing her school years.

JoAnn moved to Miami upon marrying Jack Myers and spent the rest of her life there. She and Jack were a true love story having met when they were 13 and 15, married several years later and spent the next 58 years devoted to each other.

She was a member of the First Methodist Church in Miami 58 years having taught Sunday School, Vacation Bible School for many years. She was also a member of Martha Shalom Circle.

She was chief Clerk of the Ottawa County Election Board for 20 years retiring in 1995.

She loved to travel and she and Jack had traveled and camped from coast to coast visiting grandchildren, children and friends.

She was also very interested in history and was a member of the Genealogy Club and had traced her ancestry to the 1500’s. She supported Drayton Hall, Williamsburg Foundation and Friends of the Coleman. She was a member of the Mothers Club and had many lovely friends for decades.

She was a gentle – hearted woman who loved to help her children and grandchildren. She was also a spirited woman and could get her point across without wounding the spirit of others.

She cherished her deep faith in the Lord in a quiet and gentle way. She had a gentle, calming spirit with people and family felt renewed and refreshed just being with her. She was a true lady.

Survivors include two daughters, Janet Myers – Ellis and JoAnn Sherrard both of Miami, two sons Jonathon David Myers of Demopolis, Alabama and Dr. Jack D. Myers of Miami, seven grandchildren Sean and Kelley Sherrard of Pocatello, Idaho, Nicholas Sherrard of Miami, Amy Ann Kramer and husband Rusty of Galena, Kansas, Joshua Myers and wife Lindsey of Moatgomery, Alabama, Jared Myers of Demopolis, Jenna Marre and Ethan Douglas Myers – Ellis both of Miami and three Great – grandchildren Ashley and Carson Wyatt Kramer, Galena and Landen Alexander Myers of Montgomery. Also Special sister –in – law Pat McClanahan, Tracy and Lester, Bryce and Zachary, Mike and Heather and son Joshua all of Chanute, Kansas.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday August 22, 2012 at First Methodist Church at Miami, Oklahoma with Rev. David Wheeler officiating. Burial will be in Pryor, Okla.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 7 p.m. Tuesday August 21, 2012 at Paul Thomas Funeral Home in Miami, Okla. The family has requested that donations be made in JoAnn Myers Memory to the First United Methodist Church in Miami in Lieu of Flowers. Services are under the direction of the Paul Thomas Funeral Home of Miami, Okla.
