Russell Boyd, Jr., age 82, Joplin, passed away at 5:50 a.m. Saturday, May 29, 2010 at the home of his son in Quapaw, Oklahoma after an illness.
Russell was born August 24, 1927 in Iola, Kansas to the late Russell Boyd, Sr. and Helen Ansell Boyd and had lived in the Joplin area most of his life.
He worked as a truck driver for most of his working life. He was a veteran of the United States Navy, serving during World War II. He was a life member of VFW Post II 3399, Oswego, Kansas.
Survivors include his sons, Russell Boyd III and his wife, Tina, Quapaw, Oklahoma, Richard Boyd and his wife, Tammy, Lake Wales, Florida, Frances Allen Boyd, Youngstown, Ohio; his companion and caregiver the past 19 years, Easther Moser, Joplin; seven grandchildren; and seven great grandchildren.
Russell was also preceded in death by a daughter, Vicki Gooding; and a son, Charles.
Graveside services were held today at 11 a.m. at Welda Cemetery, Welda, Kansas. Rev. Bob Simon officiated. The family will receive friends from 6-7:00 p.m. Tuesday at Parker Mortuary Chapel.
