Rachel Oswald, formerly of Miami, died Friday, October 19, 2007, at Southcrest Hospital in Tulsa after a long illness. She was 93.

Mrs. Oswald was born Feb. 3, 1914, in Taylorsville, Ga. to Jackson Spain and Carrie (Simmerville) Edwards. She graduated from Taylorsville High School in 1931. She moved to Miami in 1949. She worked as a seamstress for Burlington Manufacturing in Miami for five years. She was a very active member of the First United Methodist Church in Miami and had taught Sunday School classes for many years. She had previously been active in the Miami Arts and Crafts Club and had served a term as president. In the last few years she became involved with the Salvation Army.

On Feb. 17, 1949, she married Roy Lee Oswald in Iola, Kan. He preceded her in death on June 29, 1984.

She was also preceded in death by nine siblings.

Survivors include two sons, John Michael Oswald and his wife Michelle of Dewey, and Hugh Edward Oswald of Tulsa; seven grandsons, Greg Oswald of Monkey Island, Brian Oswald of Tulsa, Jeremy Oswald of Muskogee, Mark Oswald of Benton, Ark., Andy Oswald of Chouteau, Derek Oswald of Oklahoma City and Craig Oswald of Hilo, Hawaii; one granddaughter, Dawn Thomas of Miami, seven great-grandsons, six great-granddaughters, five nephews and nine nieces.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m., Tuesday at Cooper-Althouse Funeral Home in Miami.

A funeral service will be held 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, at First United Methodist Church in Miami with the Rev. Kathy Leithner officiating and the Rev. Verlon Snell assisting. Burial will follow in G.A.R. Cemetery. Mrs. Oswald's grandsons will serve as pallbearers.

The family suggests memorials to the Salvation Army.
