James Howard “Bo” Spoon of Miami died Friday, July 25, 2008, at St. John's Regional Medical Center in Joplin, Mo., after an illness. He was 83.

Mr. Spoon was born April 9, 1925, in Picher to Fred and Mamie (McAlester) Spoon. He married Anita Stitt. She survives, of the home.

He retired from the Picher Public School District after more than 42 years of service as a teacher, coach and administrator. He was a member of the Lions Club and several other civic organizations.

He attended the Picher Methodist Church and held a master's degree from Pittsburg State University.

He is preceded in death by his parents; one brother, John Spoon, and a sister, Marie Searcy.

Survivors include a daughter, Cinda Coach and her husband Kenneth of Miami; two grandchildren, Tonja Mahallati and her husband Ramin of Los Angeles, and Robbie Coach and his wife Michelle of Miami, a great-grandchild, Tyler Coach of Miami and a host of nieces and nephews.

Services will be 2 p.m. Monday at Southern Hills Baptist Church south of Miami with the Rev. Bill Richey and the Rev. Gary Reed officiating. Interment will follow at G.A.R. Cemetery under the direction of the Paul Thomas Funeral Home .

The family will receive friends from 4 to 5 p.m. today at the church.
