Irene Arnold of Miami died Friday, April 27, 2007, at Miami Nursing Center after a long illness. She was 97.

Arnold was born July 19, 1909, in Wyandotte to Irvin and Julia Ann (Crow) Wallace. She was raised in Wyandotte and went to school there. She moved to Miami in 1957.

She worked as a machinist for Dumas Manufacturing. She was a member of Immanuel Baptist Church and taught Sunday school there.

She married Robert Lee Arnold in Neosho, Mo. He preceded her in death on May 26, 1948.

She was also preceded in death by one daughter, Beulah Phillips on April 15, 1996; one son, Gilbert Arnold on March 7, 2006; two brothers, Clyde Wallace and Melvin Wallace, and one sister, Nettie Marie Wallace.

Survivors include one sister, Ila Mae Brodrick of Miami; three grandsons, Jim Phillips of St. Charles, Mo., Robert Arnold of Shawnee, Kan., and Bruce Arnold of Tulsa, and six great-grandchildren.

Services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at Immanuel Baptist Church in Miami with the Rev. Paul Simpson officiating. Burial will follow in Wyandotte Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Jim Phillips, Robert Arnold, Bruce Arnold, Derek Arnold, Joe Johnson and Jim Brittain.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 7 p.m. today at Cooper-Althouse Funeral Home in Miami.
