Emery Gale Hires of Miami died Thursday, March 27, 2008, in Freeman Hospital in Joplin, Mo., after an illness. He was 73.

Mr. Hires was born Dec. 20, 1934, in Lycan, Colo., to Paul C. and Louisa (Holmes) Hires. He lived in Miami for a year, moving from Colorado.

He was a veteran of the Army.

He managed a marina and owned and operated a service station. He was a farmer and a rancher.

He married Ada M. Mix on Aug. 26, 1956. She survives, of the home.

Additional survivors include one son and his wife, the Rev. Paul T. and Gail Hires of Indianapolis, Ind.; one daughter, Debra Jean Ferriter of Longmont, Colo.; one brother, Jack Hires of Kansas City, Kan.; one sister, Donna Haskins of Grand Junction, Colo.; three grandchildren, Brandi Collins, Dennis Hires and Melissa Hires, and three great-grandchildren, Abbey Collins, Beth Collins and Elijah Collins.

A memorial service was held Saturday at the First Church of the Nazarene in Miami. The Rev. Casey Hollingsworth officiated.
