Thurmond J. Archer of Miami died at 8:00 a.m., Saturday, June 23, 2007 at his home following an illness. He was 85.

Mr. Archer was born November 2, 1921 in Baxter Springs, Kansas to C. Clyde and Osie (King) Archer. He moved to Miami with his family in 1930.

Mr. Archer began his employment with Security Bank and Trust Company in January of 1940 as a file clerk. During the following years, he advanced within the bank through bookkeeping, teller, operations officer, cashier and trust officer to the position of Senior Vice-President and Trust Officer, where he served until 1984.

In 1984, he became associated with the First National Bank and Trust Company of Miami as an Advisory Director, continuing in that position until his retirement.

Mr. Archer and his wife, Myrl, have shared in contributing to the community of Miami where they raised their two children, Theresa and John.

During his banking career, Mr. Archer has participated in various programs of instruction such as small business management and banking courses conducted by the American Institute of Banking. Mr. Archer is a graduate of the Southwestern Graduate School of Banking at Southern Methodist University in Dallas, Texas as a trust major.

He is a World War II veteran, having served in U.S. Army from May 4, 1943 to January 31, 1946. During which time he served in the European Theater of Operations. Mr. Archer is a member of the First Christian Church of Miami, where he has served as Deacon, Elder, and Chairman of the Board. He is a past president of the Miami Lions Club and the Ottawa County Lung Association. He is a member of the American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars, Ottawa County Historical Society, American Iris Society, Tri-State Iris Society, and Miami Lions Club. He has been active in the Boy Scouts of America, Chamber of Commerce, and Jaycees and has served as an instructor in various classes at Northeast Oklahoma A & M College.

In addition to community, church, and civic activities, Mr. Archer enjoyed gardening and horticulture.

On December 31, 1939, Mr. Archer married Myrl Eagle at Columbus, Kansas. She survives of the home.

Mr. Archer is also survived by his daughter, Theresa Monchil and her husband Allen of Broken Arrow.

Mr. Archer was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, and one son, John Archer who died March 19, 2007.

The funeral services will be 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, June 26, 2007 at Cooper-Althouse Funeral Home Chapel in Miami with Minister Leon Weece officiating. Burial will follow in G.A.R. Cemetery, Miami. Pallbearers will be Rob Kimbrough, Chuck Neal, Charles Goldenberg, Alan Hamilton, Steve Hudspeth, and Dave Ritchey. Honorary Pallbearers will be Marvin Warren, E.C. Branson, and Jim Hudspeth.

The family suggests memorials to Integris Regency Hospice in care of the funeral home.
