Ruth Crabtree of Miami died Sunday, May 27, 2007, at Integris Baptist Regional Health Center in Miami after a long illness. She was 86.

Mrs. Crabtree was born Jan. 9, 1921, in Ottawa County to Phillip Joe and Martha Anna (Cook) Gress. She graduated from Fairland High School. She lived in Weir, Kan., for a number of years before returning to Miami.

She was a homemaker. She was a charter member of Hudson Creek Baptist Church and was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star.

She was married to Clem Crabtree. He preceded her in death.

She was also preceded in death by her parents and one sister, Edith Gress.

Survivors include one brother and his wife, Marvin and Sally Gress of Fairland; three sisters, Cleo Edwards of Wichita, Kan., Calista Hawkins of McAlester and Claudine Schoenhals of Miami, and 12 nieces and nephews.

Services will be 2:30 p.m. Wednesday at Cooper-Althouse Funeral Home of Miami with pastor Dale Neal officiating. Burial will be in Fairland Cemetery.

Her nephews will serve as pallbearers.

Memorials are suggested to the American Cancer Society in care of the funeral home.
