Christine Denise Waltz left to be with our Lord on Thursday, May 28, 2009, after a short illness.
Christine was born in Miami on Oct. 15, 1942, to Luther and Avanell Edwards. She attended Miami High School, where she had many, many friends and graduated in 1960.
She then married and had three sons, Kevin, twins Jay and Jeff, and a daughter, Cindy.
As a single mother, Christine went back to college while working and raising four young children. She graduated head of her class in nursing school to provide a better life for her children. There was nothing that came before her children, except God.
She decided to use her ability to help others and began a 25-year career working in the nursing home field, taking care of the elderly. She had a special place in her heart for the elderly and taught that to her children by example.
After all those years at nursing homes, God needed her at another place to help people. Mother always told us that you have to find a career where you help people, because that is what gives you reason to go to work in the morning and a reward that nobody can take away.
She went to work in the drug and alcohol rehabilitation field. She helped rehabilitate and personally helped thousands of people in the 12 years that she worked at the rehab center. This was her most rewarding job of all and where she met her best friend, Beverly.
Throughout her life she made the comment so many times that is was her children that she lived for.
Mother retired about two years ago and she kept busy making sure that all of the dogs at the shelters found good homes. She would adopt the ones that didnít have any time left and found homes for them. There was only one other passion that our mother had and that would be her grandchildren, who she loved so much there arenít words to express the love for Jesse and Nick Henson and Nate Neel of Miami, Christine Allece Waltz and Ashlynn Waltz of Miami and Jenny, Luke and Jake Waltz of Joplin, Mo.
Christine was preceded in death by her parents, Luther and Avanell Edwards, and one son, Jay Waltz, of Joplin, Mo., in 2002 and her loving dog and companion of 12 years, Harley.
She is survived by her sons, Kevin Waltz of Joplin, Mo.; Jeff Waltz and wife, Pam, of Commerce, and one daughter Cindy Neel of Miami; one sister, Nancy Wyrick of Carl Junction, Mo.; two brothers, Bill Edwards of Miami and Gary Edwards of Afton; and eight grandchildre, mentioned above; two uncles, Sid Wooldridge and Boomy Wooldridge of Miami; and one aunt, Neva Tipton, of Miami; many nieces and nephews. She also left her two loving dogs and friends, Spike and Charlie.
Paul Thomas of Miami is taking care of our loving mother. There will be no services, the body will be cremated.
The family asks in lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Miami Animal Shelter in the name of Christine Denise Waltz.
Mother tried and tried to raise money to get more room for orphaned dogs so that they had proper shelter and more time to fine a home instead of being put down. She was truly a lover of animals, a loving and dedicated mother and grandmother, sister, friend to all and loving child of God. Mother, we will always love and miss you.
