Mary Alice Harper of Baxter Springs, Kan., died Monday, July 30, 2007, at St. John's Regional Medical Center in Joplin, Mo., after a long illness.
She was 89.
Mrs. Harper was born Sept. 18, 1917, in the Sunnyside District in Ottawa County to Lawrence and Grace Anne (Gibson) Clark. She has been a lifelong area resident. She graduated from Quapaw High School.
She was a member of Magnolia Chapter 158, Order of the Eastern Star in Baxter Springs, past president of the Baxter Springs American Legion Auxiliary and a member of Crossroads Christian Church. She was an enrolled member of the Quapaw Tribe.
She married Raymond Harper. He preceded her in death on Feb. 9, 1966.
Survivors include two sons, Freddie Harper of Baxter Springs and Walter Wayne Harper of Wisdom, Mont.; one daughter, Mary Barnett of Bolivar, Mo; one brother, George H. Clark of Baxter Springs; one sister, Grace Anne Myers of Tulsa, nine grandchildren and several great-great-grandchildren.
Services will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Derfelt's Baxter Chapel with the Rev. Tracy Rowe officiating. Burial will be in Lowell, Kan., Cemetery.
Grandsons will serve as pallbearers.
Family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. today at the chapel with an Eastern Star service starting at 7.
