Ralph C. Darr died Sunday, Dec. 7, 2008, at Monroe Manor in Jay after a short illness. He was 82.
Mr. Darr was born Dec. 20, 1925, in Cardin to Guy and Suzie (Messenger) Darr. He was a graduate of Welch High School, class of 1943. a long time resident of Welch, Okla.,
He was a veteran of the Marine Corp serving in the Fleet Marine Pacific Force. After serving for four years and receiving an honorable discharge, he moved back to the Welch area.
He was employed as a grocer with the Foodtown Grocery Store in Independence, Kan., until retirement. After moving back to Welch, he became an active member of the Welch Emergency Medical Services. He was a licensed emergency medical technician (EMT) and a volunteer for the Thomas Funeral Home Ambulance Association. He was an active member of the New Hope Baptist Church in Jay.
On Feb. 16, 1945, he married Roberta Goodwin in Picher. She preceded him in death on Nov. 21, 1993.
He was preceded in death by one daughter, Deborah, and his parents.
Survivors include two sons, Paul Ray Darr of Topeka, Kan., and David Darr of Vinita; one daughter, Linda Dunn of Fresno, Calif.; one brother, Charles Darr of Quapaw; three grandchildren, Travis Dunn of Fresno, Kristi Maurer of Tonganoxie, Kan., and Leigh Dunn of Fresno, and several great-grandchildren.
Services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Thomas Funeral Home in Welch. Pastor Daniel Newton will officiate. Burial will be in Walker Cemetery in Welch. Friends will serve as pallbearers.
Military rites will be performed by the American Legion Post No. 147, Veterans Funeral Detail of Miami.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 7 p.m. today at the funeral home.
