Orville C. Brown of Bernice died Sunday, Dec. 14, 2008, at Landmark Hospital in Joplin, Mo., after an illness. He was 87.

Mr. Brown was born March 11, 1921, in Hoxie, Kan., to Willie and Sarah (Simon) Brown. He moved to Bernice in 1990.

He was a self-employed rancher and a construction supervisor. He was a member of the Bernice Baptist Church.

He married Elaine Nichols on April 9, 1944. She preceded him in death in 1998.

He was also preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Elbert Brown.

He married Ruth Lorenzen on Jan. 13, 2007. She survives, of the home.

Additional survivors include two sons and their wives, Jim and Elma Brown of Flagstaff, Ariz., and Bruce and Sherie Brown of Salina, Kan.; two stepdaughters and their husbands, Karen and Clarence McIlvain of Ottawa, Kan., and Lorna and Howard Hollaway of Claremore; one brother and his wife, Glenn and Molly Brown of Hoxie; one sister, Maxine Richards of Wakeene, Kan.; two grandchildren, eight stepgrandchildren, three great-grandchildren and 28 stepgreat-grandchildren.

Services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday, at Bernice Baptist Church. The Rev. Chester Crittenden will officiate. Burial will be 3 p.m. Thursday at Hoxie (Kan.) Cemetery with Lawrence Simon officiating.

Pallbearers will be Kenneth Chase, Roy Rutherford, R.J. Gibbs, Oren Eubanks, Bill Kimrey and Carl Banzet.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Adcock Funeral Home in Fairland.
