Kenneth James Black Sr. of Baxter Springs, Kan., died Wednesday, Nov. 14, 2007, at his home after an illness. He was 65.

Mr. Black was born July 1, 1942, in Pryor to James Willard and Ellen (Cooper) Black. He lived most of his life in the Miami and Baxter Springs areas.

He was a carpet layer for Jim's Floors for 14 years. He attended Christian Science Church and was a member of an American Bowling Congress league.

Survivors include four sons, Kenneth Black Jr. of Millington, Tenn., William “Bill” Black of Tulsa, Robert Black of Mooresville, Ind., and Willard “Joe” Black of Memphis, Tenn.; one daughter, Karen McKinney of Norman; his mother, of Baxter Springs; two brothers, Jerry Black and Jack Black, both of Baxter Springs; two sisters, Irene Kellogg of Wyandotte and Willa Wood of Baxter Springs, 11 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his father on March 29, 1992.

Services will be 10 a.m. Monday at Paul Thomas Funeral Home in Miami. Kenneth McKinney will officiate. Burial will be in G.A.R. Cemetery in Miami.

Pallbearers will be Scott Chisum, Ryan Black, Danny Welch, Larry Duncan, Jackie Black, Jordan Black, James Black and Earnie Stephens.

The family will receive friends from 4 to 5 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
