Guy Eugene “Gene” Zeigler of Chetopa, Kan., died Friday, Nov. 23, 2007, at his residence after an illness.
He was 83.
Zeigler was born Dec. 22, 1923, in Commerce to Ralph and Nettie May (Wilson) Zeigler.
He was a World War II veteran of the Army.
He and his brother owned and operated the Commerce Bait and Tackle for several years. He was also a truck driver for Yellow Freight in Baxter Springs, Kan. He was a member of the Chetopa Veterans of Foreign Wars and the Commerce Disabled American Veterans.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Elsie Imogene Grube; his second wife, Anna May Bigknife, his parents and two brothers, Tyrrell and Fred.
Survivors include one daughter and her husband, Anna and John Joekstra of Chetopa; one sister, Wilma Horn of Prylor; two grandchildren, Brandi Hoekstra of Vinita and Toni Nelson and her husband Brian of Chetopa, and three great-grandchildren, Gene Ann Nelson, Hudson Nelson and Garrett Nelson.
Services will be 2 p.m. today at G.A.R. Cemetery. Pat Lair will officiate.
Arrangements are under the direction of Paul Thomas Funeral Home in Miami.
