William Alvin Polson of Miami, Oklahoma, died Wednesday, December 12, 2007, at Integris Baptist Regional Health Center in Miami, Oklahoma, after an illness. He was 89.
Mr. Polson was born January 13, 1918, west of Welch, Oklahoma, to Lee and Jessie (Spunagle) Polson. He had lived in Miami most of his life. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Miami, Oklahoma. He served in the U.S. Army in Italy during WWII and a member of the American Legion. He had worked at B.F. Goodrich from 1945 to 1980.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister and one nephew. He married Edna (Parkison-Smith) on July 3, 1948. She survives, of the home.
Other survivors include one son and his wife, Benny G. and Anita Smith of Rural Quapaw, Ok.; one sister and her husband, Juanita and Jack Reynolds of Springfield, Mo.; one brother-in-law, Leroy Parkison of San Antonio, TX; one grandson and his wife, Allen and Renee Smith of Clayton, GA.; two granddaughters, Rebecca and husband John Harwood of Miami, Ok., and Elizabeth Sue Edwards of Fairland, Ok.; one daughter-in-law, Judith A. Smith of Grove, Oklahoma; seven great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral Services will be Saturday, December 15, 2007, at 10 a.m. at the Paul Thomas Funeral Home in Miami, Oklahoma. Pastor Leon Weece will officiate. Military Rites will be conducted by the American Legion Post No. 147 Funeral Detail of Miami, Oklahoma. Pallbearers will be Ethan Harwood, Dakota Harwood, Allen Smith, Fred Holt, Jr., John Harwood and Glen Weber. Interment will be in G.A.R. Cemetery in Miami, Oklahoma. Services are under the direction of the Paul Thomas Funeral Home of Miami, Oklahoma.
