Janice Diann Ferris of Miami died Thursday, Nov. 1, 2007, at Integris Baptist Medical Center in Oklahoma City after an illness. She was 60.

Mrs. Ferris was born Jan. 5, 1947, in Hart, Mo., to Melvin and Opal (Hendry) Whitehead. She had lived in the Miami and Seneca areas all of her life. She was a member of Church by the Park at Twin Bridges. She graduated from Seneca High School in 1964 and entered college in 1989. She graduated from Northeastern Oklahoma A&M College in Miami in 1991 and Northeastern State University in Tahlequah in 1993.

Mrs. Ferris was a Special Education teacher at Caney Valley High School in Ramona and later at Foyil Elementary School. She retired in 2000.

She married Kenneth Ferris on Nov. 6, 1965, in Hart. He survives, of the home.

Mrs. Ferris was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Chester and Claude Whitehead, and two sisters, Helen Vinson and Juanita Grant.

Additional survivors include four children, Kendra Wright and her husband Gary of Miami, Scott Ferris and his wife Shelly of Miami, Bettie Henson Payne of Miami and Jan Ferris of Srpingboro, Ohio; five brothers, Charles Whitehead and his wife Eunice of Seneca, Mo., Clyde Whitehead and his wife Betty of Seneca, Clinton Whitehead and his wife Donna of Seneca, Clarence “Bud” Whitehead and his wife Delores of Neosho, Mo., and Clifford Whitehead and his wife marie of Neosho; two sisters, Jean Nally and her husband Gary of Seneca and Pam Brown and her husband Claude of Seneca, 11 grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews.

A funeral service is planned for 2 p.m. Monday at Northwest Baptist Church in Miami. The Rev. Clyde Stilley will officiate. Interment will be in the G.A.R. Cemetery in Miami. Pallbearers will be Rickey Whitehead, Danny Whitehead, Loran Newsom, Mac Whitehead, Curtis Belt, Keith Carpenter, Tony Holden and Earl Vinson.

The family will receive friends from 3 to 5 p.m. today at Paul Thomas Funeral Home in Miami.
