John L. Brock, longtime resident of Fairland, died at St. John's Medical Center in Joplin, Mo., Wednesday, July 30, 2008. He was 68.
Mr. Brock was born Sep. 22, 1939, in Fairland, to Melvin and Anna (Whipkey) Brock. He graduated with the Fairland High School class of 1959.
He married Darlene Flint on Jan. 24, 1959, in Miami. She survives, of the home.
He was preceded in death by his mother.
Mr. Brock was a veteran, having served in the Air Force. He was a self-employed backhoe operator. He moved to Fairland in 1948, coming from Hickory Grove.
He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Fairland and the Masonic Frisco Lodge 24.
Additional survivors include: Two daughters, Jennifer Looper of Fairland and Angie White and her husband, Ron, of Fairland; his father, Melvin Brock, of Fairland; a brother and his wife, Gene and Brenda Brock of Fairland, a sister and her husband, Ruthie and Larry Boyd of Fairland and six grandchildren.
Services were 2 p.m., Saturday at First Baptist Church in Fairland with the Rev. Andy Krebs officiating. Serving as pallbearers were Wesley Holden, John Looper, Aaron White, Levi White, Michael Looper, Owen Looper and Tim Boyd. Honorary pallbearers were Bob Clark, Frank Tipton, Scottie Bennett, Larry Body, Jay Calan, Ron White and Rex DeLamatter.
Burial was at Fairland Cemetery. The family request donations be made to the First Baptist Church of Fairland, in care of the funeral home
