Villie Lorene Sheffield Barnes of Miami died Saturday, Jan. 31, 2009, at Osborne Care and Rehab in Miami. She was 89.
Mrs. Barnes was born March 24, 1919, in Brandsville, Mo., to Jessie James and Myrtle May (Walker) Roberson. She attended the nursing program at Eastern State Hospital in Vinita and obtained a licensed practical nurse degree. She lived in Welch.
She worked as a nurse in Miami and Vinita and attended Trinity Baptist Church. She was a homemaker.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Vernon Barnes, and two daughters, Shirley Martin and Alice Slater.
Survivors include one son, James Wesley Moore of Miami; one daughter, Barbara Morrow of Pearl River, La.; 11 brothers and sisters, Burl Roberson of Paragould, Ark., Wayne and Merl Roberson, both of Peoria, Ill., Eunice Koeling, Eldon, Carl, Melvon, Earl and Alvin Roberson, all of West Plains, Mo., and Jerry Roberson and Faye Spore, both of Dallas, Texas; 10 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren and 21 great-great grandchildren.
Services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Thomas Funeral Home with Geoff Buffalo officiating. Burial will be in Walker Cemetery, west of Welch.
Pallbearers will be Cecil Woolman, Sonny Ralston, Cody Knight, Mark Knight, Aurthor Hopkins and Earl Hopkins. Honorary pallbearers will be Ryan Martin and Joe Cordell.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
