Lavaughn Violet Hargis of Quapaw died Wednesday, Oct. 15, 2008, at Higher Call Nursing Center in Quapaw after an illness. She was 85.

Miss Hargis was born Dec. 30, 1922, in Picher to Emmett Leroy and Lottie Emiline (Mashburn) Hargis. She lived in Quapaw since 1968, moving from Tucson, Ariz.

She was a member of First Baptist Church in Picher.

Survivors include two brothers, Clyde Hargis and wife Ann of Miami and O.L. “Buddy” Hargis of Commerce; two stepsisters, Ann Hilton of Stark City, Mo., and Marie Laswell of Miami; special uncle, Estel Mashburn of Joplin, Mo.; one nephew, Gary Hargis of Plymouth, Mass.; two nieces, Rhonda Collins of Miami and Trina Lewis of Kansas City, Mo., and many friends.

Services will be 2 p.m. Monday at G.A.R. Cemetery in Miami. The Rev. Casey Hollingsworth will officiate.

The family will receive friends from 4 to 6 p.m. Sunday at Paul Thomas Funeral Home in Picher.
