Daniel Lee Palmer Jr. of Miami, Okla., died Saturday, July 26, 2008, at Freeman Health System in Joplin, Mo., after an illness. He was 58.
Mr. Palmer was born Jan. 28, 1950, in Vinita, Okla., to Daniel Lee and Betty (Abbott) Palmer Sr. He had lived in Miami for 10 years, moving from Afton, Okla.
He served in the U.S. Army during Vietnam. He graduated from Afton High School in 1968. He was a member of the First Christian Church in Afton. He worked for the City of Miami Sanitation Department for nine years.
He was preceded in death by his mother.
He married Sharon Palmer Whitecrow and later married Jeannie Swineheart Palmer on Nov. 4, 2000, in Joplin, Mo. She survives, of the home.
Survivors include his wife; Jeannie Palmer of the home; one son, Daniel D. Palmer of Miami; a daughter, Kimberly Crager of Riverton, Kan.; a stepson, Tyrell McGehee of the home; his father, Daniel Palmer Sr. of Afton; two brothers, Greg Palmer of Oklahoma City and Jim Palmer of Edmond, Okla.; a sister, Sharon Miles of Wichita Falls, Texas; four grandchildren, Taylor Noblin, Kyle Jolley, Blake Palmer and Ridge Crager. He was “Pappy” to Chance Lasiter and Alexus Lasiter.
Funeral services will be Thursday, July 31, at 10 a.m. at First Christian Church in Miami, Okla. Rick Kyles will officiate.
Interment will be in Hickory Grove Cemetery, northwest of Grove, Okla.
The family will receive friends from 7:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday evening at the funeral home.
Services are under the direction of the Paul Thomas Funeral Home in Miami.
