Anna Gertrude Hawkins died Saturday, Oct. 25, 2008, in Miami.
Mrs. Hawkins was born March 11, 1915, in Miami to Joe and Ethel (Gilchrist) Burris in Miami. She lived her in Miami except for three years in Wyandotte. She graduated from Miami High School in 1933.
Anna gave her heart to the Lord at an early age at Friends Church, later changing to the Baptist denomination. She joined Northwest Baptist Church in February, 1947. She was a teacher of the beginner's class, the GAs and finally secretary of her 55 class.
She married Grover Hawkins on Aug. 25, 1934. He preceded her in death on Dec. 28, 1976.
She was also preceded in death by four brothers, two sisters and to grandsons.
Survivors include eight daughters and their husbands, Anna and Richard Cross of Russell, Kan., Vera and Don Bryant of Bartlesville, Mary and Gary Long of Langley, Sue and Denzil Corn and Betty and Tommy Rupert, all of Miami, Beverly and Phillip Johnston of Nixa, Mo., Carolyn and Pat James of Jonesboro, Ark., and Patricia and Ray Baldridge of Wichita, Kan.; 18 grandchildren, 36 great-grandchildren and 12 great-great-grandchildren.
Services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Northwest Baptist Church. Pat James and Chaplain Phillip Johnston will officiate. Burial will be in Williams Timber Hill Cemetery.
Family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
