Gilbert Dwayne Newman of Grove died Wednesday, Aug. 13, 2008, at his home. He was 77.

Mr. Newman was born May 14, 1931, in Arapaho to Ross Bliss and Osa Estelle (Huddleston) Newman. He lived in Grove for 22 years, moving from Anchorage, Alaska.

He was a retired aircraft mechanic from the Air Force, retiring in 1978. He was also retired from the State of Alaska. He was a member of Independent Baptist Church in Grove.

Survivors include his wife, Kathryn Newman, of the home; one daughter and her husband, Kathy Lynn and Gary Bryden of Salt Lake City, Utah; one brother, Randol Newman of Pauls Valley; one sister, Nina Foster of Pauls Valley, and one grandchild, Jarrett Bryden.

He was preceded in death by his parents, four sisters and two brothers.

Services will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Independent Baptist Church in Grove. Retired Army Chaplin Billy Fowler will officiate. Burial will be in Mount Hope Cemetery in Webb City, Mo.

Military rites will be conducted by the Air Force.

Pallbearers will be Bill Coomler, Gary Bryden, Thomas Sorochman, Jess Clark, Dennis Hutchison and Brock Wallace.

Arrangements are under the direction of Paul Thomas Funeral Home of Miami.
