James ‘Jim’ Truman Mahurin, 72, of Fairland passed away at Freeman Health System in Joplin on Sunday, June 4, 2017. He was born on November 22, 1944 in Afton, Oklahoma to Harold and Nellie (Garner) Mahurin. He married Virginia Witte on April 10, 1964 in Miami at the Second Baptist Church. Jim worked at B.F. Goodrich as a welder till it closed; he then worked for B.F. Goodrich in Alabama until 2000 when he retired.  They moved back to Fairland where he enjoyed fishing, making furniture and his cows. He and Virginia were members at Lone Star Baptist Church where he was a deacon, he sang in the choir, and was a Sunday School Teacher. Jim was preceded in passing by his parents Harold and Nellie Mahurin.

Survivors include his wife Virginia of the home, his children Sherri Underwood and her husband Willis of Big Cabin and James Mahurin Jr. and his wife Amy of Cottondale, Alabama, Laberta Vinyard of Kellyville, Oklahoma, Stacy Mahurin of Chickasha, Imogene Neely of Miami, Barbara Rico of Tulsa, his seven grandchildren Jonathan McCorkle, Kelsi McCorkle, Leanna Matthews, Dustin Underwood, Emily Dickinson, Jessica Mahurin and Eric Mahurin, along with his seven great-great grandchildren.

Visitation will be Tuesday, June 6, 2017 at Lone Star Baptist Church from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m.

Services are Wednesday, June 7, 2017 at the Church at 10:00 a.m. with Reverend Brian Gibson officiating. Interment will follow at the Hickory Grove Cemetery under the care of Brown-Winters Funeral Home and Cremation Service of Fairland.
