When the heat index pops above 100, is there anything quite as refreshing as a dill pickle snow cone?
Yep. You read right.
Dill Pickle is just one of the more than 50 flavors offered at Cool Creations snow cone stand, set up in the parking lot of Marvin's IGA in Miami.
This is the business' first season.
The only customers actually brave enough to try a dill pickle-flavored snow cone, by the way, are almost always kids, said Ashley Baldwin, who helps run the stand with her dad, Steve Kinsey.
It tastes pretty much like pickle juice, Baldwin said.
But if you're not in to being experimental, Cool Creations offers a wide range of other snow cone flavors - everything, in fact, from Apple Pie to Wedding Cake.
Most aren't actually as strange as they sound. There's the Leaping Lizard, which is simply a mix of strawberry and peach; Ninja Turtle, a lime and banana blend; and Rock N'Roll, a blue raspberry and grape combination, to name but a few.
The most popular flavor, Baldwin said, is Tiger's Blood, a concoction of strawberry, watermelon and coconut. It's also her personal favorite.
Cup size ranges between small and jumbo, which is 32 ounces and sells for $3.
Baldwin estimated she never makes less than 100 snow cones a day. More than 200 were sold on just Tuesday alone, she said.
It's getting busier as the days get hotter, Baldwin said.
Though business is steady throughout the afternoon, a lot of people stop by after work, she said.
Baldwin, a local teacher off for the summer, said she agreed to help her dad, Steve, run the stand because the hours are flexible.
Plus, she said, it's fun.
I get to see lots of people, Baldwin said. I'm a people-person, so I like that.
Cool Creations is open from 1 p.m. to 9 p.m., Monday-Thursday and from 1-10 p.m. on Friday and Saturday.
But we'll stay open for as long as there are people still coming in, Baldwin said.
