BROKEN ARROW, Okla. (AP) — A Broken Arrow police officer was hospitalized after he was hit by a car while making a traffic stop and ended up firing his gun at the driver.
Police Maj. Carole Newell says the driver who was being pulled over shifted into reverse and backed into Officer Chris Chambers as he got off his motorcycle around 1:30 p.m. Wednesday.
Chambers then shot the driver in the back, and a passenger was hurt when the car ran into a ditch.
Newell says the car was being pulled over for violations that occurred in Broken Arrow, but the driver didn't stop until entering Tulsa.
She says a gun was found in the driver's possession.
