The Oklahoma Department of Environmental Quality is asking for the public's help in locating piece of radioactive equipment stolen from the back of a pick-up truck in Tulsa on Wednesday.
The Humboldt Model 5001 portable moisture density gauge is used to measure the density and moisture content of soil. This gauge is sealed to prevent leakage or escape of the radioactive material and poses a minimal threat of exposure to the public as long as the seal is not compromised.
The Tulsa Police Department has been notified. The company that owns the gauge is offering a $500 reward for its return.
ODEQ urges anyone with information about the gauge to contact the agency's radiation managementdepartment at 1-800-522-0206 or 1-405-702-5100.
