Ottawa County commissioner approved an interlocal agreement allowing Delaware County Jail inmates to be housed in Ottawa County.
The agreement now paves the way for Delaware County officials to move forward with plans to ask voters in that county to consider a tenth-of-a-cent sales tax.
Delaware County Jail officials are facing legal action by the state health officials if the county does not bring the jail population into complianc.
The jail has repeatedly exceeded population thresholds and is now seeking outside sources to house inmates.
If approved, the tax will fund the cost of sending inmates elsewhere.
Ottawa County will make 20 beds available to Delware County at a cost of approximately $32 a day per inmate.
